Seattle dude/director Bartlett Sher gets his 4th nomination for the revival of August Wilson's Joe Turner's Come and Gone; Dolly Parton (9 to 5) and Elton John (Billy Elliot) face off in the best score categoy; American Idol reject/douchebag from a few season's back, Constantine Maroulis (pictured above; image from Getty) gets a leading actor in a musical nomination for Rock of Ages and 109 year old Angela Lansbury gets a featured actress nod for the 4,789th revival of Blithe Spirit...Oh, and Billy Elliot got the most nominations with 15 including a best actor in a musical nomination shared by all three young actors who play the leading role of Billy Elliot on different nights. Scissor Sisters Jake Shears working on Tales of the City musical!!

Armistead Maupin's "Tales of the City" is getting the tuner treatment, with a Broadway-aimed musical adaptation in the works from "Avenue Q" book writer Jeff Whitty plus Jason Sellards and John Garden, two members of the band Scissor Sisters.

WTF!!!!! This is either the BEST thing ever, or a potential mega mess...but I'm hoping for the Greatest Story Ever Told!!!

"Jason Moore ('Avenue Q," "Shrek') will helm the show, which follows the idiosyncratic characters encountered by a young Midwestern woman in 1970s San Francisco. Produced by 'Avenue Q' producers Jeffrey Seller, Robyn Goodman and Kevin McCollum, 'Tales of the City' hopes to hit Broadway during the 2009-10 season. Budget for the developing show has not yet been determined, although creatives and producers expect a large-scale musical that, like the original book, follows the storylines of nearly a dozen major characters. Seller estimated capitalization would cost no less than $10 million. Plot of the musical will focus on the 1978 novel 'Tales of the City,' the first of seven 'Tales' books, with elements from the second novel likely included as well."
