Beating the Dead Book Horse...

I just thought of something in regard to the discussion about indie bookstores versus the corporate monster bookstores...everyone engaged in this discussion probably buys at least 75% of their books at HalfPrice Books or a similar used bookstore which deprives indie AND corporate booksellers, publishers and authors of any money.

I'm not ashamed to admit it. As a book lover, if I can buy 10 used books for the price of ONE new book, I'm going to go for the big bargain...like MOST book lovers with limited means, which today means pretty much everybody...

The existence of a used market increases the value of new items. Surely plenty of people buy new books knowing that they can sell them later, and would be unwilling to pay as much if they were not likely to be able to sell those books later.
