Charlton Heston 10/04/23-04/05/08

We shared a birthday and nothing more...

America's Hammiest Actor and former NRA president is dead at age 84. We'll cherish the scenery chewing in The Greatest Show on Earth and The Ten Commandments and Ben-Hur and Planet of the Apes and Earthquake and Soylent Green and Airport '75 and The Omega Man.

We'll actually appreciate his subtler performance as the evil Cardinal Richelieu in The Three/Four Musketeers.

We'll salivate at his hunky physique in those early films, all the way up to his butt shot in Planet of the Apes.

We'll deplore and ignore the histrionic rhetoric on gun control and try to forget some homophobic comments he made. We'll try and shut out the ugly politics and instead, try to remember that he DID march with Martin Luther King.

We'll chuckle at the fact that fellow Republican Barbara Stanwyck didn't care for him on the set of The Colbys and referred to him, behind his back, as "Moses".

We won't promise that we might have to have a Heston Film Fest of his cheesier 70's films, (Soylent Green and the ilk).

Hopefully, he's in Republican Heaven with all the other dead saints/sinners of the right.
