ART ORGY is the official launch of Action Northwest’s newest program, the Backpack Project

and it's taking place Saturday, March 8th at 1016 1st Avenue which is above Taboo Video just a couple blocks down the street from Seattle Art Museum and near Pioneer Square. It starts at 7pm and allegedly last all night.

I was approached about this a few months to help with it by the Action Northwest director, Michael and we were supposed to get together and talk more about it, but he never contacted me. I did get a couple general emails for a call to artists and to help set up, but I didn't respond. I really don't know what's going on with this since I don't think they're doing ANY advertising or marketing. I haven't seen any posters, there doesn't seem to be a website or even a MySpace page and there's nothing listed at the Stranger or Craigslist. I hope they have a massive mailing list, because I don't know how anyone is supposed to know about this, unless they've been specifically invited. And, since I was on a mailing list about setting this show up, I find it strange I haven't received anything about promoting the actual event. It's for a good cause and it might actually be fun, but it seems to be a big secret...oh, except for the fact that uberannoying Aleksa Manilla is "hosting" the event...shit, people; there ARE other entertainters in town capable of hosting an event and unlike Miss Manilla, some of them have TALENT!!

Here's some more stuff that's supposed to be at the Orgy:

The Sky's Gone Out
1-2-1-2
Blicky
The Right Typewriters
DJ Flirt
DJ Randy
DJ Boy Force
DJ Snake Beads
Dj Go Hand!

Burlesque
Drag Performances
Body Painting
Indie Movies
Spoken Word
Food/Snacks
Beer/Wine
and Renowned Drag Queen:
Aleksa Manila

But I don't see anything about admission?!?! The whole thing is odd...

UPDATE: I guess I should tell you what Project BackPack is all about...I just cut and pasted from the Action Northwest website:

Be a part of the Backpack Project’s fundraiser ART ORGY, An Explosion Of Art For The Senses. In a beautiful downtown Seattle 7000 Sq. Ft loft this one night event will feature a fine art exhibition & auction which 70% of proceeds will go to stuffing backpacks for homeless/transitional youth.
Also, included in the night will be live bands, indie movies, drag show/cabaret and a large dance floor with regional and national D.J.’s.
THE ART ORGY is the official launch of Action Northwest’s newest program, The Backpack Project.
The Backpack Project will provide backpacks to homeless/transitional youth. These backpacks will contain clothing, food, toiletries, art supplies and a one stop shop book that outlines in detail resources regarding: LGBT health, meth issues, jobs, housing, counseling, doctors, food banks and a wide array of resources for all youth. This auction will benefit the Backpack Project and proceeds will be used for printing of the resources books and to purchase items for the backpacks.

To receive a backpack at a later date homeless/transitional youth must volunteer or work with a program at one of the participating social service agencies. After receiving a backpack, youth can return to the Backpack Project office and receive a stipend pay to help stuff backpacks, do outreach to youth on the street and work in the office.
