The Vatican's version of the Stranger, L' Osservatore Romano, pans


"There Will Be Blood" and "No Country for Old Men" for portraying an "America without hope" and praises "Juno" for its "brave openess"....The writer goes on to criticize the Oscars for awarding such negative movies and gives kudos for the Independent Spirit awards for honoring "Juno" and "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly", another praiseworthy movie in their opinion that "tells about the beauty of life".

I dunno; I have this bizarre image of Father Guido Sarducci hanging out at the Independent Spirit Awards and hanging out with Diablo Cody backstage having cocktails and pillaging through the gimme bags...
